CRANE TRAINING

Mobile Crane Operation Wheeled or Crawler - CRANE4
Aims & Objectives

On completion of the three – five day course the operators will know:

a) Their statutory duties under the Health & Safety at Work Act 1974
b) The machine identification, terminology and daily maintenance
c) The safety aspects relating to the usage of this type of crane
d) The operational disciplines relating to the usage of this type of crane
e) The use of audible and electronic warning device
f) The safe methods of slinging

Module 1

  • The Health & Safety at Work Act 1974:
  • Section 2, General duties of employers
  • Section 7 & 8, General duties of employees
  • Powers of the Inspectorate
  • The Provision and Use of Work Equipment Regulations 1998 (an overview)
  • The Lifting Operations & Lifting Equipment Regulations 1998 (an overview)

  • Types of slings available
  • Correct use of slings
  • Signaling and communication

Module 3

Methods of
Slinging

  • Types of slings available

  • Signaling and communication

Module 4

Introduction to the Mobile Crane


  • Duties and responsibilities
  • Safety procedures to include:
    • Overhead pylons and wires
    • Ground and weather conditions
  • Safe load indicators – radius and load charts
  • Daily maintenance
  • Use of outriggers and stabilizers

Module 5

Mobile Crane Operation
(No load situation)


  • Safety working practices to include:
    • Pre-start checks
    • Start up, traveling, stopping
    • Use of all motions
  • Hoisting, slewing, luffing
  • Telescoping, lowering
  • Hook positioning

Module 6

Mobile Crane Operation
(load situation)


  • Pre-start checks
  • Positioning of crane to take the load Setting up the crane
  • Use of, and correct response to signals
  • Taking the loads
  • Use of all motions
  • Hoisting, slewing, luffing, maneuvering
  • Lowering
  • Positioning the load
  • Setting the load down

Module 7

Close Down Procedure

  • Traveling to parking position
  • Park crane
  • Position and rest jib
  • Neutralize crane
  • Fault reporting

Notes Comprehensive notes will be given to all students who

Certification On completion of training delegate will be issued a certificate of attendance of which will be valid for 5 years
