risk assessments. To ensure Delegates are competent
and confident in the role and able to achieve the legal

Successful
achievement of this course will enable delegates to
be able to:
- understand what the law requires
and when it applies
- know and understand the extent
of adverse health effects from poorly designed tasks
and workstations (WRULDs, stress,
eye sight problems)
- understand and relate to
the DSE Assessor role and be able
to advise the Employer and Staff about the recommendations
required to reduce the potential for risk
- understand the relevant guidelines
in order to competently and confidently fulfill the
duties of a DSE Assessor
- understand the contents,
preparation and review of DSE Self-Assessment Checklists
and Risk Assessments within the context of Organizational
policies, procedures and documents
- understand how to analyze
Self-Assessments and identify the need for further
action
- define, specify and organize
the supply of appropriate controls, reasonable adjustments
and supplementary equipment
- provide appropriate information,
guidance and training to Users
- understand and apply the
requirements for consultation, communication, co-ordination
and competence
- maintain appropriate records

Indicative Content |
- Background and context for
the Regulations why it was introduced, its effect
and recent changes.
- General management duties
and responsibilities – ensuring competence,
co-operation, co-ordination, consultation.
- Training and provision of
information for DSE Users in order to implement the
necessary strategies.
- The application of the Regulations
– definitions, risk assessment triggers, frequency
and review (users, high risk workstations, types of
equipment - including Background and context
- for the Regulations - why
it was introduced, its effect and recent changes.
- General management duties
and responsibilities – ensuring competence,
co-operation, co-ordination, consultation. Training
and provision of information for DSE Users in order
to implement the necessary strategies.
- The application of the Regulations
– definitions, risk assessment triggers, frequency
and review (users, high risk workstations, types of
equipment - including use of laptops, mouse use, ancillary
equipment, home and mobile working).
- An understanding of basic
ergonomic principles and the interface between computer
and user (links to work Related Upper Limb Disorders)
– including workplace design, job design, posture,
efficient movement principles and reasonable adjustments.
This will be reinforced by practical exercises on
actual workstations.
- The requirements for eye tests
and provision of special corrective eye wear.
- How to conduct assessments
and use checklists – ‘The Seven Point
Plan’.
- Implementing an effective
action plan and Knowledge Check.
